Stuart Macfarlane
Stuart Macfarlane studied optometry at the Queensland University of Technology and subsequently obtained a distinction in Ocular Therapeutics from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. A member of the Contact Lens Society of Australia, until national registration in 2010 he was a board member of the Optometrists Board of Queensland. He was subsequently appointed an optometry panel member of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Since 2012 he has been a panel member of the national Professional Services Review (PSR). The PSR protects patients and the community by reviewing and examining possible inappropriate practice by practitioners. He was appointed the optometry panel member of the Determining Authority in 2017. Stuart was also in the inaugural group of Queensland optometrists to complete post-graduate therapeutic certification to allow the use of diagnostic and therapeutic drugs. This has enabled him since 2004 to write prescriptions for eye-drops such as antibiotics, anti-glaucoma and anti-inflammatories for the treatment of ocular conditions such as allergy and conjunctivitis. His particular interests are dry eye, diseases of the eye and ensuring the best fit for your eyewear needs. He is a CASA credentialed optometrist (CO).
Geraldine Bendell
With over 20 years in private practice, Geraldine studied Optometry at the Queensland University of Technology. Since then, Geraldine has gained experience in both city and rural practices before joining Stuart Macfarlane Optometrist in 2004. She has been involved in the mentoring program for undergraduate students from QUT and supports the district with community talks on eye-care. In 2007 Geraldine completed her therapeutic post-graduate certification, enabling her to prescribe therapeutic eyedrops. Her special interests include diseases of the eye, dry eye, children's vision and contact lenses and she participates in the Queensland Children's Hospital (QCH) Eye Clinic's Paediatric Optometry Alignment Pilot Program. SARAH HA
Sarah is a dedicated and experienced optometrist with a passion for providing comprehensive eye care tailored to each patient's unique needs. She completed her optometry studies at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and has been practicing since her graduation in 2018. Sarah also works in collaboration with an ophthalmologist, specialising in glaucoma management. Her expertise spans several key areas of optometry, including dry eye therapy, contact lenses and children’s vision. Sarah is therapeutically endorsed to prescribe ophthalmic medicines and is a member of several professional organisations. Outside of her professional life, Sarah is married and enjoys health and wellness activities.
Zion Kim
With a Bachelor of Vision Science and Master of Optometry from QUT, Zion (Grace) is well-equipped to provide exceptional eye care services to our patients. Zion has a particular interest in glaucoma, which led to the completion of an Advanced Certificate in Glaucoma through the Australian College of Optometry. This additional qualification demonstrates Zion's dedication to staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in optometry and providing the highest level of care to patients. Zion enjoys all aspects of optometry, but has a special interest in pathologies and ocular therapeutics, managing a wide range of eye conditions, and providing patients with tailored treatment plans for optimal vision and eye health. Zion is married and speaks fluent Korean.
John kelly
John graduated from Queensland University of Technology in 1990 and has since built a distinguished career as an optometrist. With a deep passion for helping people see the world clearly, he is dedicated to optimising the health of the eyes—what he often refers to as the "two priceless cameras" in each patient’s head. Specialising in both vision correction and the management of various eye conditions, John provides expert care for issues ranging from dry eye to glaucoma.
Over the years, his commitment to improving his patients’ quality of life has only deepened, making his work even more rewarding. John has extensive experience in private practice, including a tenure on Norfolk Island, and has collaborated closely with ophthalmology specialists to provide comprehensive eye care. His goal is always to make a positive impact, helping each patient see and experience the world with greater clarity and comfort.

Shirley is an optical stylist and dispenser originally from Victoria. With many years of experience in the industry, Shirley has honed her expertise in optical styling and dispensing to perfection. Tammi is a seasoned professional with 17 years of diverse experience in the field of optics. Hailing originally from Victoria, Tammi's journey in optics has been rich and varied. Her expertise spans a multitude of areas, including dispensing, where she thrives on providing personalised advice to patients on frames and lenses. Tammi is also well-versed in eye therapy, optical lab technology, and IPL dry eye treatment.
She excels in conducting additional testing such as OCT and visual fields, ensuring comprehensive eye care for her patients. Tammi's passion for empowering patients extends to contact lenses, where she not only teaches patients how to use and care for their contacts but is also trained in soft contacts, Ortho-k, and mini-scleral lenses.

Originally from Victoria and a devoted mother of three, Kim brings over 7 years of expertise in the optical industry to her role as an optical dispenser. Julie found her passion for Optics 20 years ago, bringing a wealth of knowledge, she guides her clients to the best fitting solution for them.
Understanding the importance of care given to your vision, she is dedicated to providing a tailored customer experience. She is skilled in fitting and adjusting eyewear and stays updated with industry trends. With her personalised service in eyewear styling and lens selection, she believes everyone should feel good while seeing well. Growing up on the Murray River in South Australia she enjoys fishing, yabbying and being on the water. Julie has a certificate in Small Business Management and originally worked in the transport industry for many years. She loves get togethers with family and friends, travelling, music and dancing.
The practice
The practice contains consultation and dedicated ancillary equipment rooms extensively equipped with state of the art instruments including:
- Zeiss Humphrey field analyser 3 computerised perimeter for investigating visual fields.
- Topcon computerised auto-refractor for measuring spectacle refraction.
- Slitlamps for examining and imaging the anterior segment of the eye.
- Computerised Medmont C-100 for testing colour vision deficiencies.
- Digital Goldmann applanation, Perkins, i-Care and non-contact puff tonometers for measuring intra-ocular pressure.
- Fundus camera for digital retinal imaging.
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) which enables high resolution cross-sectional retinal imaging for the comprehensive management and diagnosis of glaucoma, retinal disease, and in particular macular degeneration. OCT enables our optometrists to more readily distinguish between the dry and the wet form of macular degeneration.
- Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) which is a non-invasive technique for imaging the microvasculature of the retina and the choroid.
- Fundus Autofluorescence (FAF) which provides information about the health and function of the retina.
- Intense Regulated Pulsed Light (IRPL) therapy with TEARSTIM IPL for dry eye treatment.
- Computerised topography for keratoconus management and miniscleral contact lens fitting as well as orthokeratology (ortho-k) lens fitting.
