Stuart Macfarlane graduated from the Queensland University of Technology in 1983 and subsequently obtained a distinction in Ocular Therapeutics from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. A member of the Contact Lens Society of Australia, until 2010 he was a board member of the Optometrists Board of Queensland and subsequently a panel member of the Optometry Board of Australia. Since 2012 he has been a panel member of the national Professional Services Review (PSR). The PSR protects patients and the community by reviewing and examining possible inappropriate practice by practitioners. He was appointed a panel member of the Determining Authority in 2017. Stuart was also in the inaugural group of Queensland optometrists to complete post-graduate therapeutic certification to allow the use of diagnostic and therapeutic drugs. This has enabled him since 2004 to write prescriptions for eye-drops such as antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for the treatment of ocular conditions such as allergy and conjunctivitis. PBS prescriptions for glaucoma drops are able to be written in conjunction with a co-management plan with an ophthalmologist. His particular interests are contact lenses, diseases of the eye and ensuring the best fit for your eyewear needs.
